We feared border patrol coming into Alaska from Canada, but it was a snap. The mountains in Alaska are majestic.
Joe, our lead driver, spotted these 3 elk eating along the roadside. They didn't seem to worry about our passing.
We were just about to pull into this roadside rest, when Joe noticed a couple of grizzly bears. We decided not to take a break at that time.
This one was on the run. Seemed to not like our presence at all. Our first grizzly sighting, but hopefully, not our last.
Sorry, this picture isn't any larger. This mama moose and her young calf were running along the left side of the road when mama decided to cross the road right in front of us. But.....where's baby?
Mama turned around and waited for baby to catch up. That's the calf in the middle of the road. It was exciting to see.
We finally made it to Delta Junction, which is the official end of the Alaskan Highway. Starting at Dawson Creek and ending here for 1420 miles. The highway was constructed in less than 10 months. One of the most amazing feats of all times.
Here is the monument depicting this great achievement. Learning the history behind the Alaskan Highway has been a great experience for all of us.
You can believe the Alaskan mosquitoes are real. It's true. They follow you everywhere. I got these two, but there's plenty more.
